AdAstra Academy Trust is based in the North East of England. It was launched in January 2015 as a result of the vision of two different yet high-performing primary schools in Hartlepool. Despite a significant social difference in the communities they served, West View and West Park Primary Schools built on a collaborative ethos to form Ad Astra. Working in partnership from the very beginning this built a strong foundation for what is an exciting and dynamic Trust.

In essence an academy is a publicly-funded independent school. As the name suggests a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) often has more than one academy within the Trust and is the preferred model of the Department for Education primarily because it has strong governance accountability. An academy is a registered company and charity whose governance is determined by a set of legal documents; Articles and Memorandum of Association as well as a funding agreement with the Education Funding Agency (EFA). The Trust is governed by a board of Trustees and Members who are responsible for ensuring strong educational and financial performance.

Ad Astra is a Latin phrase which means ‘to the stars.’ This name was chosen as it encompasses all that the Trust believes; any child or adult working within Ad Astra can be whatever they want to be with our support and direction.
